Girl killed in leopard attack

Srinagar, Jan 9: A 10-year-old girl was killed in a leopard attack in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir, official sources said today.
Shabina Akhter, a resident of Beighpora-Utrusoo, was critically injured in the attack by the animal in her village last night, the sources said.
She was immediately taken to the sub-district hospital Achabal but succumbed to her injuries, the sources said.
The leopard was driven back into the nearby forest by villagers who noticed the animal attacking the girl.
Snowfall in the upper reaches has caused a shortage of prey for wild animals and they often enter villages in search of the food.
In the past several months, over a dozen persons have been killed and many injured in the attacks by the wild animals, especially black bears and leopards.
